AJS Motorcycles has confirmed that its highly-anticipated Imber 125 model will no longer be made available for purchase.

The shocking news means customers that have already pre-ordered their new Imber 125 will receive a full refund.

The Imber 125 was one of the company’s most anticipated models of recent times, but despite “exhaustive efforts” to get the motorcycle to comply with European legislation, including Euro5+ emission standards, the company has ultimately had to abandon plans of selling the new model.

The Imber 125, which featured a semi-automatic four-speed gearbox, was set to arrive on the market with a UK price of £2,349.

It also featured a 125cc air-cooled SOHC engine that claimed to produce 6.91kW (or 9.2bhp) at 8,000rpm. Additionally, the bike was said to weigh 115 kg, while also making use of an 8.5-litre fuel tank.

The British manufacturer confirmed the news earlier this week through a statement on its Facebook page, which read:

“After exhaustive efforts to bring this motorcycle to the market, a decision was made yesterday to announce this news; We regret to inform you that the new AJS Imber 125 motorcycle will no longer be made available to purchase. During our standard pre-launch quality control checks, it has come to our attention that the factory is unable to meet the Conformity of Production standards set out under European Whole Vehicle Type Approval during production and this matter cannot be resolved. This conflicts with information we had previously been provided with.

“We sincerely apologise to our dealers, and to customers who were eagerly awaiting delivery, for any disappointment this news may have caused. If you have placed a deposit, please contact your dealer, who will arrange a full refund.

“AJS remains committed to producing motorcycles that inspire confidence and deliver exceptional fun on every ride. We will continue working closely with our manufacturing partners to introduce more exciting new models to the range.”
