Kawasaki reveals major changes to KX85 motocross range
Kawasaki’s new KX85 youth models have undergone a series of updates for 2026, giving them a more big bike feel.

Kawasaki has revealed major updates to its KX85 and KX85 L motocross machines for 2026, starting with a new suspension package, larger brake discs, and front bodywork changes.
It certainly feels like Kawasaki has applied a wipe the slate clean and start over approach with the new youth models, although the liquid-cooled two-stroke engine remains unchanged.
The above-mentioned suspension system now features larger 43mm KYB forks with adjustable compression and rebound damping. The new Kashima-coated forks replace the outgoing 36mm setup, while the rear suspension has also been updated, with a single shock that now offers adjustable compression and rebound damping and adjustable spring preload.

The rod diameter has been increased from 12.5mm to 14mm, with the cylinder length also extended from 380mm to 390mm. A revised linkage has been added to the KX85 L model, which gives it 305mm of rear wheel travel. That number puts it on par with Kawasaki’s full-size KX bikes.
The L model, which stands for ‘big wheel’, boasts a bigger front and rear wheel setup over the standard KX85. The former comprises a 19-inch front and 16-inch rear, while the KX85 features a 17-inch front and 14-inch rear.
The updates are far from done, though, as the front of the bike also features a larger 240mm brake disc, which is paired with the same caliper body and master cylinder that is used on the more powerful KX250.
A larger 220mm disc is also found at the rear, meaning the new 240mm/220mm combination replaces the previous 220mm/184mm setup.
New Dunlop Geomax MX34 tyres have also been introduced, which Kawasaki claims will “increase traction, brake grip and cornering grip while offering better front-end feel”.
The frame has also been tweaked, with the length of the steering head pipe extended by 25mm. The changes to the frame are plentiful as the handlebars, steering stem and rear sprocket are now made from aluminium. Additionally, the handlebar setup offers riders the ability to custom fit it to their needs, as it is adjustable in both forward and rear positions.
The KX85 is priced at £4,649, while the KX85 L arrives with a slightly higher price of £4,749.
