BMW has released a new teaser image which is believed to show the next generation S1000 RR. The date of the full reveal is slated to be taking place on May 23, 7pm CEST (6pm UK time).

The image shows a dimly lit sports bike set against a pitch black background. And while there is little detail shown in the pictures, it’s fairly clear what the machine is behind that shroud of darkness.

With only the upper extremities of the machine illuminated, we can pick out a distinctive and sizable-looking windscreen, with the fuel tank, seat and tail unit also being in view. At the front of the bike, you can almost pick up the leading edge of the S1000 RR’s sizable winglets, as it slightly overlaps the BMW roundel on the side of the fairing.

The date for the reveal is pertinent to the story here, as it’s the date that the Concorso d'Eleganza takes place at Villa d’Este on the banks of beautiful Lake Como. The event is a concourse contest with a difference, as it awards prizes not just to the best in show classics and vintage machines, but concept cars and motorcycles too. In 2019, the event was used to showcase the R18 Concept bike, as BMW looked back to its past while imagining a custom cruiser future. While sales of the R18 have been tepid compared to expectations, should the new model getting unwrapped later this week be a new S1000 RR, it’s likely to fly out of dealerships.

With a thumpingly good inline four-cylinder engine, 209bhp, and 83lb ft on offer, the top-spec sports bike has been a strong seller among road riders, track day enthusiasts and racers. For those looking for a little more spice from their Bavarian brew, the M1000 RR offers much of the same with more extreme aerodynamics and less drag-prone bodywork. If the bike shown above does indeed turn out to be either version of the top-selling sports bike, we expect it to build on those specs significantly.
