I don't know about you, but I've got a stockpile of old batteries in my garage; from motorbikes, to lawnmowers and a couple of car ones too.
My old battery charger was all I could afford 7 years ago and as such it's a basic model and couldn't get any of these back from the dead. I don't know why I kept them, but it's probably because I'm very tight indeed and thought that one day I might have a use for them. And now I do. Kind of.
My new Oxford Maximiser 3800 reocvered all 7 of these batteries over the weekend, some of them have been 'dead' and gathering dust for well over 5 years.
Plugging the Maximiser in, it tests the battery and, in my case, set itself to Recover mode. In this mode the digital display showed it was giving the battery a tender talking to: delivering 0.01 amps at first and slowly building up. After a couple of hours it switched to Charge mode - the equivalent of frantic CPR - and upped the juice, then with a satisfying click it stepped into Maintain mode. Voila! A fully functioning battery.
So now I've got 7 batteries in my garage that I still have no use for, but, at least they're charged and ready for, umm... I'm not sure yet.
