Gadget and tech laden, the only thing that isn't electric is the engine, and that's smooth enough to make you wonder.

Huge torque from just above idle.

Very trick adaptive headlight.

Friendly bank manager and good credit rating will be required.

Overall Review

After having had Ducati's, Daytona 955, 675 and a Rocket 3 the BMW oozes quality and reliability, it doesn't keep cutting out, it starts easily and apart from the standard weekly checks and a clean all I have to do is ride it. (bliss) and I still get all the attention I got when I had the Rocket. Unless BMW mess up the experience in some way bye bye Triumph.

Strengths

Starts easy, reliable, smooth, easy to clean and gets 60 mpg on a long run (300 to the tank) If you want to just ride and not have to fiddle to keep it going then this is the bike for you. Sat nav talks to the bike telling you when fuel is low and where the nearest fuel station is. radio works well and can be heard through the speakers even at 70mph. The lights are the best I have ever had. Top box and side cases are removed in under 2 mins for easy cleaning.

Weaknesses

The sat nav beeps if you are speeding which annoyingly I haven't found a way of silencing yet, the drive clonks at low speed in heavy traffic. The bikes electrics are canbus system so I bought the optimate 4 dual so i could charge it through the power sockets but I now know that it is not compatible with this system so still charge it through the pigtale straight to the battery.

Overall Review

Ground breakingly brilliant. Love it. My first big bike that makes me want to ride it for ridings sake. JR

Strengths

Engine, gadgets, performance, handling. The most effortless long distance bike ever. Plus it goes round corners (my girlfriend, who rides herself, cried on the way up the Austrian Alps, it goes round corners like a sportsbike) Little things like the central locking.......really usefull. High quality panniers, adjustable screen, 100MPH is largely silent. And the ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE. I rode a 4 cylinder machine the other day, it felt rough!!

Weaknesses

Corrosion on exhaust guards and on swingarm. Being fobbed off the dealer "They all do that sir" I am about to bypass them and go upstairs.

Overall Review

After reading Kevin Ash's review (god bless him) I had to test ride one. And after you have test ridden one you have to buy one! I bought an 2012 1600GTSE ex-demo with 1,000 miles on the clock and have done over 13,500 trouble free riding.

Strengths

The 1,649cc engine - Twist the ride-by-wire throttle and feel the engine deliver you into biker heaven, most satisfying. You can stay in 5th or 6th gear all day and go down or up hill and overtake without changing gear. The bike is really comfortable - two up all the way to Czech Republic/Slovakia no problem - we could of kept going for ever without discomfort. All the luxuries: Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), Tyre Pressure Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Anti-theft Alarm System and Central Locking System, electronic screen etc etc.

Weaknesses

Heavy (not when riding as its like floating on air) Known problems: Water pump leaks & switches (all covered under warranty so you must keep up renewing your warranty) and some complain about drive line lash/clunky gearbox (seems to be fixed in later models 2013 onwards). I have a 2012 and have had the water pump and switched re[placed under warranty and have had no problems with the gearbox. It may be a bit clunky but that adds character to the bike.

Overall Review

A fantastic bike for touring two up and hooning around on your own. Three european tours and 16,000 miles in two years in total comfort. Superb.

Strengths

Handles far better than a bike this heavy has a right to. The engine is absolutely wonderful, the flip out deflectors are a godsend in hot weather. It's just a wonderful bike that is irresistible, a 250+ mile tank range, great exhaust noise, handling, comfort you name it the K1600GT has it. Whoever said central locking was a gimmick (and I did before I had one) has never had it!

Weaknesses

The fairing isn't quite a effective as any RT model, especially for your hands which are definitely more exposed. Speedo dial is too cluttered, (better on the GTLE models) I use the digital speedo in the TFT display.

Overall Review

Most of the time when I'm not touring I take off the panniers and top box and ride it like a sports bike. It handles superbly and will keep up with the more hard core bikes in my ride-out group. I have a 2013 GTLE that has done 4000 miles. I had to change the tyre at 3400 which was below my expectations but may be due to the way I ride it. Touring with it fully loaded is amazing - absolutely effortless. There is no end of technological wizardry which will satisfy even the most geeky rider if you're that way inclined. I would have preferred a slightly bigger sat nav housing and a bigger screen to make it more easily readable, but that is nit-picking really. I have had K1150/1200 RTs, K1300GT and now this which is by far the best bike I have ever had, even surpassing the superb previous ones. An expensive machine (it is a BMW after all) but in terms of performance, build quality, presence on the road and sheer unadulterated enjoyment you won't find better. The RT was a class act but this amazing bike just raises the bar.

Strengths

This must be the best (Sports) Tourer in the world ever. It is an amazing motor cycle in so many ways with few faults or drawbacks. The engine is incredible with great torque and excellent acceleration through the gears. Handles superbly for its size. Extremely comfortable with a high level of equipment and capable of eating continents with its fuel consumption and tank capacity. Good brakes, and a brilliant headlight.

Weaknesses

First gear can be a bit snatchy at low speeds and the gearbox can be a bit clunky lower down at times. The side stand plate is small for the bike's size & weight so I added a supplementary plate. I've also found it can be easy to stall occasionally as there is a vague sense of disengagement between the clutch and engine. Adjusting the clutch cable alleviated this. At first I thought it was just me but several professional reviewers have mentioned it. A little heavy to manoeuvre - wouldn't have minded a reverse gear ! Accessories are expensive - e.g. £50 for the cable to link the i-Pod dock
