Overall Review

I've added a really tall screen and avon distanzias which coupled with the hand guards, maneuverability and imperious seat height, make it unbeatable for a urban/sub-urban commute. Especially through the filthy British winter. Mine is of 1989 vintage and bought cheap, had obviously been neglected and ridden maintenance-free through the previous winter. The chain was almost seized, it had a nasty weave and where it wasn't covered in white fur it was rusty. A new chain, tyres, head bearings, calipers freed and a good clean and service and it was ready for action. Initially I was underwhelmed by the performance but now I have learned to short-shift and use the punch of the thrappy engine and avoid long straights it has won me over with its agility and reliability. The rugged looks have grown on me as well.

Strengths

Durable enough to be dipped in salt for 3 months, neglected and crashed and still come back for more. Floats through my urban winter commute like the other traffic is frozen in place. Practical like your grandad's shed. More fun than it looks on paper.

Weaknesses

Lacks power when the road opens out. lacks a 6th gear. Looks dated. 105mph and 43bhp? Not from where I'm sitting. More like 85 and 35 respectively.
