WorldSBK to use carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo for the first time ever
Brembo’s all-new carbon-ceramic Hyction braking system will be used in WorldSBK from 2027.

Brembo is set to shake up the landscape in WorldSBK by introducing its new Hyction carbon-ceramic brake discs to the series in 2027.
Earlier this year, Brembo secured a deal with WorldSBK that allowed it to become the series’ Official Innovation Partner. However, Brembo has now revealed a fresh agreement with the series, which sees it become the exclusive braking supplier from 2027.
The partnership also means that WorldSBK will become the first production-based motorcycle championship to use carbon-ceramic brake discs.

The new Hyction brake discs are designed to offer better consistency, thermal stability and durability than the current steel units found in WorldSBK. Brembo also says the new discs offer more sustainability long-term, as well as better efficiency overall.
In terms of real-world results, the change to carbon-ceramic discs is set to focus on delivering better performance across three key areas in WorldSBK; they are the unique challenges of each circuit, different types of braking zones and racing conditions.

Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director, said this about the new partnership:
"WorldSBK represents the closest link between racing and the machinery used by enthusiasts around the world. By expanding our collaboration with Brembo into this new technical chapter, we reinforce the championship’s relevance as a platform where innovation developed in competition contributes to the future of production motorcycles.
“I would also like to thank the manufacturers, teams and the FIM for their collaboration and support in shaping a technical direction that keeps WorldSBK closely aligned with the development of the motorcycle industry."
As well as the introduction of Brembo’s new Hyction brake discs, WorldSBK will be switching from Pirelli rubber to Michelin in 2027, while MotoGP will be performing the same switch in reverse, meaning it is swapping out Michelin tyres for Pirellis.
WorldSBK had used carbon brakes in its early years, but they were banned for cost reasons in 1994.
