Toprak Razgatlioglu takes on legendary racetrack, but not on two wheels

Toprak Razgatlioglu swapped two wheels for four as he took part in a track day at the famous Nurburgring circuit last weekend.

Toprak Razgatlioglu has been keeping himself busy during the WorldSBK summer break, as the two-time world champion took to the infamous Nurburgring circuit, but not on a motorcycle.

The legendary circuit is known to many in two ways. Modern racing fans will know of the venue because of its short GP layout, which Formula 1 once raced at, but it’s the full-length Nordschleife circuit which appeals to many.

The Nordschleife, which spans approximately 12.9 miles, is a circuit that riders and drivers of all abilities regularly attend, but this week it was the turn of Razgatlioglu, who jumped behind the wheel of a BMW car.

It’s a well known fact that professional racers find it hard to keep themselves away from any two, or in the case of Razgatlioglu, four wheel action during their short summer breaks. As part of his track day, Razgatlioglu also met with experienced BMW racers Rene Rast and Kelvin van der Linde.

The car Razgatlioglu appears to be driving is a BMW M2 which features a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine that produces 473bhp, has a 0-62mph time of four seconds, and a top speed of 177mph if it has the M Driver’s Pack added to it.

Razgatlioglu shared footage of him driving the track on his social media, and to no surprise, he was very quick. But the soon-to-be Premac Yamaha MotoGP rider first had to avoid a driver ahead of him that was getting very loose under braking. Toprak did manage to pass the driver, and in typical style, it came during a set of bends.

Now, Razgatlioglu has many years of top-level motorcycle racing ahead of him, as the Turkish rider is still just 28 years of age. However, it already looks as though the BMW star could be looking at a similar career to Valentino Rossi, who switched to four wheels after retiring from MotoGP in 2021.
