Mauro Poncini has been named as the rider who tragically died following a two-rider incident at the Manx Grand Prix on Tuesday evening.

This was initially confirmed by the Swiss Moto Federation, which led the tributes for the fallen road racer. Aged just 29, Poncini was born in Caslano, Switzerland, and was making his debut at the Manx Grand Prix this year.

Poncini and his fellow competitor crashed at Cruickshanks during the first of three planned sessions on Tuesday evening. He was described as a rider with an “extraordinary heart”, and someone who was well liked by his competitors.

“It is with profound shock and immense sadness that we have learned of the passing of our rider, Mauro Poncini.

“Mauro lost his life on August 18, 2026, during qualifying for the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man. He was only 29-years-old.
