Stark Future’s historic debut in the World Supercross Championship is edging closer after a technical regulation check was carried out, and approved, by the FIM.

The reason Stark’s venture into World Supercross is indeed historic, is clear. The Swedish-Spanish company is set to race its electric Varg MX 1.2 machine against brands using combustion engines.

Combustion engine-built motorcycles typically race in their own series, and like with MotoE when it was introduced a few years ago, electric vehicles do the same. However, Stark’s entry into the off-road series has somewhat thrown the cat among the pigeons, as it will put a big spotlight on not only World Supercross itself, but the electric vs combustion-powered debate.

FIM President Jorge Viegas said:

“Innovation and development have long been a key part of motorcycle sport, as such the FIM has recognised and embraced the addition of electric motorcycles to our various FIM World Championships, which represents an exciting and new chapter across all disciplines.

“We are therefore delighted to welcome Stark Future to the FIM World Supercross Championship, as we know this will add a new and thrilling dynamic to the racing, as electric motorcycles now can race against their combustion engine rivals and show how competitive they are in front of thousands of fans around the world.”

“Adding further technical detail, the FIM International Technical Commission and FIM Motocross Commission highlighted the extensive work undertaken to ensure parity and fairness.”

The news of Stark’s official entry to the World Supercross series comes off the back of a busy, but seemingly very successful summer, as it has just secured more funding, with the intention of expanding its motorcycle range, including a new street bike.

Back to the World Supercross Championship, Anton Wass, Founder & CEO, Stark Future, added:

“Racing in the FIM World Supercross Championship is an incredible milestone, not just for Stark Future, but for the sport as a whole. From day one, our vision has been to prove that electric can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with combustion at the very highest level, and the FIM’s confirmation gives us the green light to do exactly that.

“With clear regulations in place, we can race with confidence on a fair playing field and showcase the Stark VARG’s performance when the gates drop in Kuala Lumpur. This is more than just participation, it’s about leading an evolution where innovation meets competition, shattering preconceived notions and setting new benchmarks for performance and sustainability in motorsports.”

The 2025 World Supercross calendar currently consists of five rounds, with the season-opener set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 18. From there, the series will head to Brazil on November 8, Canada on November 15 and Australia on November 29. To round out the 2025 championship riders and teams will head to South Africa on December 15.
