Yamaha-based Norton RCW588 replica up for grabs
This stunning Ron Haslam Norton RCW588 race replica is going under the hammer on 9 November - but this bike holds a secret…

A unique Ron Haslam Norton RCW588 race replica is heading for auction on 9 November, as part of the Iconic Motorcycle Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show.
When you first look at the bike, you would be forgiven for simply thinking “that’s a lovely-looking Norton race bike with the famous JPS livery”, and not much else. However, there’s a lot more than meets the eye with this motorcycle.
It is a 1995 model, but interestingly, Norton and JPS were no longer racing as partners during that time, meaning this livery dates back to earlier years and has been carefully applied to this bike.

It’s also a machine that’s based on Yamaha’s YZF750R, a motorcycle built in the early 1990s, which featured a 749cc four-cylinder engine that was capable of around 125hp (123bhp).
Before being presented to Iconic Auctioneers, the bike was built by Slipstream Motorcycles, a company best known for selling second-hand bikes in Skegness, Lincolnshire.
Now, you might have seen some of our recent stories of bikes that are scheduled to go up for auction at the same venue, which includes a Norton F1 Rotary, and a 2019 Andrea Dovizioso Ducati MotoGP bike. Both of those machines, but particularly the latter, are expected to go for rather a lot of money. This Haslam RCW588 replica, though, is only estimated to sell for around £4,000 to £6,000.
It’s unclear how many miles the bike has done, but Iconic Auctioneers says the bike was “last MOT’d in 2019”. It also goes on to say that “it has been on display in our vendor's collection ever since” and that it might require the usual checks and recommissioning before returning to the road, although it has been "run up to temperature regularly and treated to fresh fluids", according to the bike's description.
The new owner of this bike will receive a trickle charging lead and a JPS-liveried helmet, as well as your usual paperwork like its current V5C, old MOT certificates, and a YZF750R owners manual.
