Rossi: 'Great pity I couldn't be competitive'

Rossi speaks out on leaving Ducati at the end of 2012

VALENTINO Rossi has spoken for the first time since it was confirmed that he will be leaving Ducati and returning to Yamaha at the end of 2012.

Rossi chose to speak directly to the public on the subject of his return to Yamaha, posting on his Twitter (@valeyellow46): "It's a great pity I couldn't be competitive with Ducati, it would have been great satisfaction for me and all the guys who worked with me and all our fans. I'm sorry"

"Anyway, we still have eight races to go and we are going to try until the end with some nice races for all our supporters."

In the official press release from Ducati, Rossi stated: “This break served as an opportunity to make important decisions for the future, but now I want to return to thinking about the races because we want to improve and during the weekend it’s important to focus completely on what we have to do on the track.

"Indianapolis isn’t one of my favourite circuits, although I do have a win there.  It’s a particular track because it’s one of those that goes in the opposite direction, so the lines are a bit strange in many of the corners. It’s a tricky track, but we’ll try to do our best and have fun.”

Ducati have yet to announce Rossi's replacement, but Tech 3 Yamaha's Andrea Dovizioso is favourite to take the remaining factory seat.
