The Dutch TT is always a highlight of the MotoGP calendar, and this year it is treating us to a typically unpredictable forecast, and hopefully some great racing come Sunday, too.

FP1 + FP2

A wet Friday morning meant that a drying line in FP2 was a deciding factor in which was the most important session on day one at the 2022 Dutch TT.

The weather was so bad in FP1 that a red flag seemed a possibility. It did not bother Johann Zarco, who continued to lap regardless of the conditions - and was fast, if sketchy - but there were also crashes for the likes of Enea Bastianini, who simply aquaplaned into turn one, locked the front and went down.

By the afternoon, the track was beginning to dry, but the continuing threat of rain meant that early improvements in FP2 - while the track was in a good condition but still too wet for slicks - could be important for Q2 qualification.

Luca Marini was the first rider to venture out on slick tyres, and it took him four or five laps but he was eventually able to top the times. At the moment Marini hit the top, other riders started to go out, chasing a time in the final 15 minutes or so of the session.

Several riders went to the top at one stage in the closing minutes of the session: Miguel Oliveira, Fabio Quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzecchi and more all spending some time atop the times.

By the end of the session, it was Francesco Bagnaia on top, ahead of Aleix Espargaro and Fabio Quartararo, who completed the top three. Alex Rins was fourth, while Jack Miller rounded out the top five, and Joan Mir the top six. In seventh was Maverick Vinales, fresh from his best race with Aprilia in Sachsenring, while Brad Binder was eighth, in front of Johann Zarco and Marco Bezzecchi, who completed the top 10 despite a crash.
