CASEY Stoner's 800cc Ducati Desmosedici GP bike sold for more than Valentino Rossi's at a recent auction.

Both Stoner's GP10 "CS1" and Valentino Rossi's GP11 "VR2" 800cc GP bikes were up for sale. The GP10 fetched £201,285 while the GP11 went for £196,649.

Stoner's GP10 was the more successful machine, taking a win at Phillip Island and bagging three pole positions. Valentino Rossi's GP11 wasn't as successful a bike but did get Rossi's only podium to date on a Ducati.

Considering the fact it costs around £2.5 million to lease one of these bikes for a season's racing, we think the buyer of Rossi's GP11 has found themselves a bargain and canny future investment.

Quite why Ducati felt the need to sell these bikes remains a mystery.
