Spiralling insurance costs claim another well-known race

The statement from the organisers confirms that without the insurance for competitors, officials and the public, the event cannot go ahead

Mondello Park

MOTORCYCLE racing in Ireland has been hit recently after rising insurance costs forced multiple events to cancel their plans for 2023.

So far though, the effects of spiralling costs have only affected road racing events, although today we have heard that Mondello Park in  County Kildare is also shelving any motorcycle racing events planned for this year. The news comes from Superbike-News.co.uk, which reports that the Dunlop Masters Championship 2023 will not be taking place.

The news will undoubtedly come as a big blow to teams and competitors, who have likely been fettling away over the winter months in preparation for the racing this year. The statement on Superbike-News states:

‘Mondello Park promotes the Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship in partnership with the MCI Short Circuit Committee, under permit from and in accordance with the rules set out by MCI. Insurance cover for competitors and officials, along with public liability insurance, is provided by MCI and without that insurance, race events cannot take place.

‘Mondello Park will continue to do what it can to assist Motorcycling Ireland in organising a return to racing and if a solution can be found to the insurance issues Mondello Park will facilitate, where possible, a return to racing at the earliest opportunity.’

The website does go on it state that Mondello’s trackday activities are unaffected by the Insurance woes, meaning those with trackdays booked at the event should still be able to attend.
