The race will take place on the Newcastle Quayside, with the track designed by Bolt himself, in collaboration with fellow SuperEnduro rider Johnny Walker and 12-time Trials World Champion Dougie Lampkin. Red Bull says that motocross, enduro, mountain biking, BMX, “and the wider world of action sports,” are all inspirations for the track design. Together, they will create a “test of skill, speed, endurance, and nerve,” Red Bull says.
The event will follow a head-to-head racing format, with 14 pro riders and eight wildcards making up a 22-rider entry. Riders will race down the length of the course, where at the far end there is a wallride which will send them back down the track in the opposite direction.
On the announcement of Red Bull Tyne Ride, reigning and four-times SuperEnduro World Champion Billy Bolt said: “I’ve been working on the Red Bull Tyne Ride concept for a few years now with Red Bull, and I’m absolutely buzzing to bring this head-to-head race to my hometown this summer.
“The course is insane, it’s hugely creative in track design, with features inspired by different action sports – it’s really going to challenge the competitors. Usually our races are inaccessible, so to be in the city centre is going to be amazing.”
Red Bull Tyne Ride is scheduled for 3 August 2024, which is somewhat awkwardly on the same weekend as the MotoGP British Grand Prix and, perhaps more importantly, the British round of the EnduroGP World Championship.
