O'Halloran leads McAMS Yamaha 1-2 in final test before 2021 BSB kick-off

The final test of the longest ever ‘winter’ ahead of the 2021 British Superbike Championship has come to a close with Yamaha holding a 1-2 at Donington Park courtesy of factory McAMS riders Jason O’Halloran and Tarran Mackenzie.

The last test before the belated season opener on June 25-27 at Oulton Park, though this was just a single day of running, warm conditions allowed for considerably more mileage than during a washed out three-day Snetterton test in May.

With the best times of the day coming in the closing stages, O’Halloran - runner-up to champion Josh Brookes in 2020 - fired to the top of the timesheets, followed closely by team-mate Mackenzie, just 0.2secs behind.

The Scot had seemingly put the top spot out of reach with an impressive final effort that unseated Kyle Ryde, only to be followed across the line by an even better effort from his counterpart.

The only riders to dip below 1m 06s, Kyle Ryde gave chase on the best of a large 10-strong BMW contingent, ahead of leading Honda rider Glenn Irwin and BSB rookie Danny Kent, who continues to acquit himself well on the ageing but still quick Suzuki GSX-R1000R.

Having skipped the Snetterton test, reigning BSB Champion Brookes was sixth best from VisionTrack Ducati team-mate Christian Iddon, with Buildbase Suzuki’s Gino Rea, FS-3 Racing’s Lee Jackson on the new Kawasaki ZX-10RR and FHO BMW’s Peter Hickman rounding out the top ten.
