Danny Buchan scooped his second British Superbike Championship (BSB) victory of the day at Knockhill with a fortuitously timed pass on Rory Skinner shortly before a red flag brought about an early end to Race 3.

Having ended BMW’s four-year drought for a BSB victory in Race 2, Buchan doubled up in Race 3 with a fighting ride that saw him claw his way back from fifth place initially, even if it prevented a famous Scottish-flagged win for rookie sensation Skinner.

The 18-year old showed no sign of pressure from pole position by slotting into second initially before grabbing the lead off Tarran Mackenzie before the end of the opening lap. Proceeding to open up a comfortable margin as rivals squabbled further back, it was only when Buchan broke through that chasing pack that he had to resist any attention from behind.

Buchan’s momentum would see him slip underneath the FS-3 Kawasaki rider at Clarks on lap 24, a lap prior to the red flag being deployed following an accident for Glenn Irwin on the run out of Duffers Dip into Leslie’s. With the Honda stricken at Scotsman and 75 per cent of the race having been completed, the result was called with Buchan winning from Skinner.

Despite falling half a lap short of a maiden win, Skinner’s performance will have vindicated many who predict the 2020 British Supersport Champion is destined for greatness in future.

Tarran Mackenzie and Christian Iddon made it an identical top four as Race 2, the latter consolidating his status as the new championship leader, eight points clear of Jason O’Halloran, who bounced back from his earlier crash with a sixth place behind Bradley Ray.

Tommy Bridwell and Peter Hickman rounded out the top eight, ahead of Kawasaki duo Ryan Vickers and Lee Jackson.

Gino Rea and Dan Linfoot headed Josh Brookes, who suffered another out-of-sorts weekend on what has been a curiously lacklustre start to the year for the reigning champion. Danny Kent and Andrew Irwin completed the points’ paying positions.
