Brands Hatch undergoes track updates

Brands Hatch is undergoing circuit improvements this winter in preparation for 2019 with new kerbs and run-offs being installed.

The iconic British circuit, which hosts British Superbikes, the British Touring Car Championship and DTM, will have its run-off area at the approach to Graham Hill Bend (Turn 3) extended and raised to a consistent plane to improve safety standards. The run-off surface at the Graham Hill Bend exit is also being improved with the same work being taken out at Druids (Turn 2).

The section of track which connects the Indy circuit configuration at Clearways is being resurfaced while new kerbs are being installed at Paddock Hill Bend (Turn 1).

The updates are expected to be completed before the start of the track’s 2019 motorsport action, beginning in early March, which circuit manager Mike Groves describes as a “major project”.

“We're undertaking a number of improvements to the circuit over the off-season, including a major reworking of the run-off zone on the approach to Graham Hill Bend,” Groves said.

“This major project, along with a handful of other on-track tweaks, will put us great shape ahead of what I'm sure will be another terrific season of motor racing.”

Brands Hatch’s first major motorsport event is BTCC on April 6-7 with BSB’s maiden visit to the track in 2019 taking place across June 14-16.

The Kent circuit has hosted racing since 1926 and was the home of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix between 1964-86 when it shared alternate hosting years with Silverstone.

Brands Hatch is currently an FIA Grade Two circuit.
