SC-Project's new exhaust for the Yamaha MT-09 will cut weight and add power

The Italian exhaust brand, SC-Project, has brought its STR-1 silencer to Yamaha's mid-range naked motorcycle, the MT-09, saving weight and gaining power.

SC-Project have released a new exhaust for the Yamaha MT-09 that boosts its performance and cuts its weight.

Motorcycle manufacturers are very good at building motorcycles, hence the industry. But, their products can often be adjusted for the better, and SC-Project is one of the companies that specialises in that regard.

In this case, the Italian exhaust manufacturer has lent its specialisation to the Yamaha MT-09.

SC-Project’s STR-1 silencer is now available for the mid-range Yamaha naked, and brings with it a boost to the power and torque outputs, as well as the SC-Project logo on the tailpipe which lets everyone know that your MT-09 is at least one step above the majority of MT-09s.

To be specific, adding the STR-1 pipe to your Yamaha MT-09 will gain you an not-insignificant 3.1 horsepower, and a similarly not-insignificant 2.5Nm.

Additionally, SC-Project says the STR-1 provides “a sensible improvement of throttle response and riding experience throughout the full engine delivery range,” while maintaining the bike’s Euro5 compliance.

The STR-1 silencer also shaves 0.5kg off the weight of the MT-09, which should (theoretically) promote better acceleration, braking, turning, and fuel consumption.

There are two versions of the STR-1 available for the Yamaha MT-09. There is the stainless steel variant (top of page), which costs €1,240, or around £1,080 at the time of writing, plus shipping. Secondly, there is a matte black option (above), which costs €1,480, or around £1,300 at the time of writing, plus shipping.

Check the STR-1 out for yourself on the SC-Project website.
