Triumph has just confirmed that the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is in its final stages of testing with posts on its official social channels and website, with a few details and shots to whet our appetites for the newest addition to a seriously contested middleweight market.
It’s huge news, and is the first new bike that Triumph has launched since the Trident 660 - from which this Tiger ‘cub’ shares a motor.
Despite no official dates or details being confirmed at this stage, we’ve been given enough information to confirm a few base details. The new Tiger Sport 660 will feature the 660cc liquid-cooled triple powerplant - most likely in the same guise as seen in the quick & classy Trident 660 - making it A2 compliant with APS throttle fitted and likely matching the 80bhp and 64 Nm (47 lb-ft) of torque on tap.
As they say, the final phases of testing is underway, this new model is sure to bring the engine performance advantages of a triple to the middleweight adventure sports category - and no doubt in typical Triumph style.
Further official details on this new middleweight Tiger are thin on the ground as of yet, but having a closer look at the photos reveals some of the trim spec - particularly of note are the 17-inch wheels with Michelin Road 5 hoops, Showa front forks, and Nissin brakes in a twin front disc & single rear disc setup.
What spec is the new Triumph Tiger 660?
Other photos show the new adventurer with a pannier set, front LED lights with small DRL strips, and despite a (admittedly pretty nice) Triumph logo livery obscuring finer details, it seems the underlying paintwork or highlights is a Tiger Sport 850-esque blue.
It’s looking good so far, and with the recent announcement of the Tuareg 660 from Aprilia, the middleweight adventure/tourer market has never looked so appetising. Although this Trumpet may lean towards GT, similar models to factor in are the Yamaha Tenere 700, KTM 890 Adventure, and Yamaha Tracer 7 amongst others.
