MotoGP is set to return to a venue it last raced at in the 1990s, with Buenos Aires set to become the new home for the Argentina GP.

The Autodromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez will be fully renovated and the track layout will also be updated as part of its planned return to the MotoGP calendar. The circuit, which is based in the nation’s capital, already hosted MotoGP in the 1960s, 80s and 90s.

Although the Argentina Grand Prix has been well attended in recent years, MotoGP officials believe that will improve in Buenos Aires, with 150,000 fans expected trackside in 2027.

The Termas de Rio Hondo circuit has been part of the MotoGP calendar since 2014, with races held every year except when the Covid-19 pandemic and recent flooding led to cancellations.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports: “This is exciting news for MotoGP, and for fans in Argentina and Latin America. It’s a great venue and puts us close to the heart of Buenos Aires, which will be a flagship location not only in terms of the country and continent, but globally too.

“The passion of the crowds we’ve seen at recent Grands Prix in Argentina, who come from far and wide, is legendary and we’re excited to let them know where we’ll see them again – and when – as we continue to work with Grupo OSD to bring the most exciting sport on Earth to Argentina.”

The news of Buenos Aires joining the calendar comes just a week on from MotoGP confirming a new deal with Sachsenring, which will remain home of the German GP until 2031.
