A memorial ride is being planned in honour of a Blood Bikes Wales rider who was killed while delivering blood supplies earlier this year.

Timothy Minett, 78, was killed on 2 July as a result of a collision with a Volkswagen Crafter van while travelling the A478 near Pentregalar in Pembrokeshire.

Minett was killed instantly. The van’s driver, a 56-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. It is unclear what has happened to him since then.

“Tim was a valued member of our Blood Bikes Wales family and a true friend to many,” says a statement on the Blood Bikes Wales Facebook page.

The organisation says that its memorial ride will take place on Sunday 19 October, starting at the Haverford West airport and travelling to Crug Glas country house.

“We warmly invite all who knew Tim, or who wish to show their respect for a much-loved volunteer, to join us,” says a statement from Blood Bikes Wales.

Blood Bikes Wales is a charity that, like other members of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes, provides a completely free courier service to the NHS, delivering blood samples, plasma, donated human milk, documents, and other items.

The organisation relies solely on volunteers, with riders attending calls year-round and in all weathers. The history of blood bikes stretches back to the early 1960s, although the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes was not established until 2008.
