Italian police have recovered stolen goods worth around €200,000 (or £174,500) that belong to Ducati Corse, from a 37-year-old Romanian man in Bologna, Italy.

The theft, which took place in November, included spare race parts and accessories intended for use in MotoGP and WorldSBK.

The investigation was handled by the Arma dei Carabinieri, which is the Italian national police force. Surveillance cameras were used to help identify the thief, with police then carrying out a house search on behalf of orders from the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bologna.

The thief, who previously worked at the Borgo Panigale factory for an external contractor, had stolen a large amount of Brembo brake calipers, some Ohlins suspension kits, watches, and a large amount of racing apparel.

Some of the official race caps were in the colours of Enea Bastianini, who raced for the factory Lenovo Ducati team in 2023 and 2024.

A press release from the Carabinieri said this about the theft:

“The Carabinieri of the Bologna Borgo Panigale Station identified a 37-year-old Romanian, residing in Bologna, caught in possession of spare parts and other accessories for racing motorcycles of furtive origin. It happened during a house search that the military carried out at the man's home on the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bologna as part of an investigation for theft against the Ducati of Borgo Panigale, where the subject had worked on behalf of an electrical systems company.”

It also went on to say that “the 37-year-old Romanian was reported for aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods”, but that all seized parts and accessories are now waiting to be returned to Ducati.
