Harley-Davidson Super Glide returns to the US range

Harley-Davidson brings back the iconic Super Glide as a stars-and-stripes limited edition, with just 2,500 examples heading to US dealers.

Harley-Davidson has revived one of its most famous models, as the Super Glide is confirmed for the US market, this time as a numbered and limited edition model.

At the heart of the new bike is the Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin in its ‘Classic’ guise. The US-spec Super Glide pumps out a thumping 120 ft-lb at a lazy 2,500rpm, with peak power claimed to be 98hp (96.6bhp) at 4,600rpm. The chassis and electronics of the bike are all very familiar, with 49 mm telescopic forks and a hidden monoshock handling the suspension, while a tidy analogue and LCD tank-mounted display provides the essentials.

Really though, this bike isn’t about the tech, spec, or performance figures; it’s about reviving one of Harley’s most important models of the late 20th century. The Super Glide is widely regarded as one of the first genuine factory custom bikes available to riders.

It mated front-end components from the lightweight Sportster models with the frame and engine from much bigger V-twins. The result was a proper muscle bike stance, and at the time that it was released, there was nothing else like it on the road.

The 2026 edition of the bike sticks closely to that script, and wraps the bike in the famous red, white and blue paint scheme that some say was a response to the movie Easy Rider. The two-wheeled star of that film was the bike ridden by Wyatt (played by Peter Fonda) and was nicknamed “Captain America". That bike's stars and stripes paint job was, according to some, the inspiration for the original Super Glide, although others point to it being inspired by the customisation culture that boomed off the back of the film.

The 2026 Super Glide will be limited to just 2,500 models produced this year, and is priced at $15,999 (around £12,000) to US customers. It’s not yet clear whether or not the bike will be making its way to Europe or the UK in the future.
