Retro Motocross on AMA schedule
American salute to the 80s under way
THE AMA Supercross organisation announced last night that the second round of the iconic Anaheim race on January 19th will serve as 'Throwback Night' dedicating the event as a retro salute to legendary '80s racing.
The 'Throwback Night' will feature a replica of the 1986 Anaheim track celebrating the epic battle between legendary Honda riders David Bailey and Rick Johnson. In what is still considered by many to have been the greatest supercross race of all-time, Bailey went on to win the race and Johnson captured the championship that year.
Dave Prater, Supercross Director for Live Nation Motor Sports said: "We based the Anaheim retro design on the 1986 Anaheim track for a few reasons. First, 1986 is recognised as the beginning of the modern era of supercross. Secondly, the race is seen by many to be the greatest supercross race of all time that featured Bailey and Johnson."
Many modern teams and riders will be outfitted with gear and bikes with an '80's retro theme.
That's gonna be, like so all the way cool, dude.
