Bike-riding nun dead
90-year-old Australian nun passes on
A NUN, made famous for riding a motorbike around the northern Western Australian community of Kalumburu, has died.
Sister Scholastica, known as Josephine Carillo, before joining the Benedictine Nuns, died yesterday aged 90, after living at the community for more than 50 years.
Kimberley Catholic Bishop Christopher Saunders said: "She'd probably be the most photographed nun in Australia. She would ride her motorbike around the mission and down to the village and back again ... sometimes at a great speed. People naturally got out of the way because she only had two speeds, which was flat out and stop."
