JUST days after UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss spoke to the US Secretary of State at the UN Assembly on the matter, the family of Harry Dunn have reached a deal in the form of a US civil claim against his alleged killer, Anne Sacoolas.
Radd Seiger, the Dunn families spokesperson has described the news as a 'milestone' moment for the Dunn family, who have long been seeking justice for the teen killed while riding his motorcycle near a military airbase.
The details of the agreement remain undisclosed, although Harry’s family and Seiger are now going to steadfastly focus on the imminent criminal case against Sacoolas and the inquest that will follow soon after.
“There is much work left to be done before justice for Harry can be said to be done. There will also need to be a parliamentary inquiry into this scandal in due course,” Seiger added.
When the news broke, Liz Truss, who was travelling to Washington for a meeting with Joe Biden, stated that it was “absolutely not the end” of the battle for Sacoolas to return to the UK to face justice. “We continue to press for justice for Harry.” She continued.
Harry was killed while riding past RAF Croughton on his motorcycle when he was struck by a car that was travelling on the wrong side of the road. The alleged driver of the car at the time was the wife of a US diplomat, Anne Sacoolas. Her husband was serving at the base, which remains a United States Air Force communications station. Despite a request from the police at the time to remain in the UK, Sacoolas and her husband fled the country on what is thought to be a US Air Force flight soon after the crash.
