EV brand Ultraviolette scores over £15m in funding

India’s Ultraviolette has big dreams and big plans. And now it has a big pot of money.

Ultraviolette, whose F77 Mach 2 electric motorcycle we test rode last month has received a huge injection of cash, to the tune of $21 million (about £15.48 million).

The funding largely comes via corporate venture-capital firm TDK Ventures, a subsidiary of Japan’s TDK Corp. In so doing, TDK joins a number of other investors in the India-based electric brand, including Indian software company Zoho Corporation and Exor-owned investment management company Lingotto (formerly Exor Capital).

Longtime motorcycle industry watchers will probably hear alarm bells at the mention of venture capital firms and investment management companies. Motorcycling - the electric bike segment in particular - is littered with the hollowed-out husks of once-promising brands who ultimately struggled to bridge the deep chasm between debt and profitability.

But for now, it’s all smiles at Ultraviolette.

“Our partnership with TDK Ventures fast forwards our efforts, from advanced battery platforms to intelligent vehicle systems,” said CEO and co-founder Narayan Subramaniam.

It’s assumed that the brand, which first arrived in the UK back in April, will (or, at least, should) put this latest round of funding toward efforts to expand both its line-up and its dealer network.

Ultraviolette currently offers just two models - the aforementioned F77 Mach 2, and the F77 Super Street - but says it hopes to expand that to 14 electric vehicle models by 2028. First on the list will be an enduro-style machine called the Shockwave in the first quarter of 2026. Shortly after that, the company plans to release a maxi-scooter it calls the Tesseract.

Ultraviolette has dealerships in some 20 cities in its native India, with an ambition of expanding to more than 100 cities. Outside of India, the brand is sold in Germany, France, Ireland, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, and, of course, the UK.

It has seven dealerships spread across England and Wales, with four of them being Krazy Horse locations.
