CFMoto is set to take on the big guns, with a new three-cylinder 1000cc MT-X rumoured for an EICMA reveal.

CFMoto could be about to step into the highly lucrative big-bore adventure motorcycle segment, with reports suggesting the new 1000 MT-X is to be unveiled at EICMA.

The move would pitch the Chinese brand toe-to-toe with BMW’s all-conquering R1300 GS, and Honda’s Dakar-inspired CRF1100L Africa Twin.

There is no concrete information from CFMoto about the bike, although a teaser campaign has been running on social media showing what looks like an aggressive frontal fairing. That teaser shows quite a sporty looking bike, though, meaning we could be about to see more than just one big-bore reveal. It's the 1,000cc big-bore ADV which is arguably the most exciting prospect, though, with Jets Marivent, the Spanish importer of CFMoto two and four-wheelers, being the most prominent voice touring its arrival.

Exactly how the bike will shape up remains to be seen, although it is thought to be utilising an inline three-cylinder engine, which would be an interesting angle. Some of CFMoto’s current range use reworked KTM engines built under licence in China. The 800 MT-X, for instance, uses CFMoto’s version of the KTM 790 parallel twin cylinder platform. That isn’t to say that triples are a new thing for CFMoto, as it already has the 675 three-pot residing in its 675NK sports naked.

As you’d expect, hard and fast specs for the bike are not known. Some reports suggest that it’ll be making in the region of 111bhp, meaning it would be more aligned with the Honda Africa Twin/NT1100 than class leaders like the Ducati Multistrada V4 and KTM 1390 Super Adventure.

For more confirmation, we’ll have to wait and see, and Visordown will be at EICMA, ready to bring you all the news as it happens.
