AGV Pista GP RR gets a fresh coat of liquid inspiration

AGV has dressed its flagship race helmet in water-inspired colours, but the Pista GP RR remains a no-compromise MotoGP lid with full FIM approval.

AGV has pulled the wraps off a new limited-edition version of its Pista GP RR helmet, and while the paint job does a fair bit of the talking, the real story is that this is still very much the same race lid used at the sharp end of MotoGP.

The design takes its cue from water, which in marketing terms means a mix of sea green and metallic gold graphics laid over a carbon shell. It’s eye-catching without tipping into full race-replica loud, and the layered finish is meant to give a sense of movement and depth. Whether that works is subjective, but it’s certainly not subtle.

Under the paint, nothing has changed, but that's no bad thing. The Pista GP RR is AGV’s top-level helmet and is the same model worn by its sponsored riders in World Championship competition. It carries the latest FIM homologation, which goes beyond standard road approval and includes testing for rotational forces – the kind that can do real damage in high-speed crashes.

The shell is AGV’s Extreme Carbon construction, made entirely from carbon fibre to keep weight down. Aerodynamics have been developed in the wind tunnel, with prominent metal air vents and a rear PRO spoiler designed to keep the helmet stable when speeds climb.

Vision is handled by AGV’s Ultravision visor, which is 5mm thick, optically rated to class 1, and offers a claimed 190-degree field of view. Inside, AGV’s 360-degree Adaptive Fit system allows riders to mix and match padding thickness around the crown, nape and cheeks. The system is designed to ensure riders can get the fit right, rather than just feeling plush.

The new AGV Pista GP RR Acqua is available to order now on the official website, and is priced at £1,370. Sizes range from XS to XXL.
