Yamaha pays tribute to racing royalty with the 2026 XSR900 GP, a retro-inspired celebration of ‘King’ Kenny Roberts and his golden era Grand Prix machines.
Yamaha has unveiled the 2026 XSR900 GP, and this year’s model pays tribute to one of the most legendary figures in motorcycle racing history, ‘King’ Kenny Roberts.

The XSR900 GP sits at the top of Yamaha’s Sport Heritage range, a collection of bikes that mix nostalgic styling with modern performance. Inspired by Yamaha’s Grand Prix race bikes of the late 1970s and 80s, the GP takes the familiar CP3-powered XSR900 platform and wraps it in bodywork that looks straight out of racing’s golden age.
For 2026, the focus is on Roberts, the first American to win a 500cc world championship and a man who helped redefine what a GP racer could do. Between 1978 and 1980, Roberts won three world titles, cementing himself as a Yamaha legend in both Grand Prix and AMA racing.
The new XSR900 GP reflects that heritage with its fresh Legend Yellow livery, a faithful nod to the YZR500s Roberts rode to glory. The bike’s yellow paint scheme, complete with the unmistakable black Yamaha speedblocks, makes for a striking combination of retro design and modern aggression.
Underneath the race-inspired bodywork sits Yamaha’s proven 890cc CP3 triple, offering the same torque-rich performance and advanced electronics found on the standard XSR900. While mechanically unchanged, the GP remains the most evocative model in Yamaha’s retro lineup, a bike that celebrates history without getting stuck in it.
The 2026 XSR900 GP will be available in Legend Yellow and Legend Red (the latter as seen above), with deliveries expected to begin through European Yamaha dealers next year.
The new 2026 XSR900 GP will make its UK debut on the Yamaha stand in Hall 4 at Motorcycle Live.
