2026 CFMoto MT Challenge is changing to the new 1000MT-X

After launching the MT Challenge in 2025, CFMoto is bringing back its global competition, albeit with a change of machinery.

The 2026 CFMoto MT Challenge will feature the new 1000MT-X adventure bike, which was unveiled at last November’s EICMA show in Milan, Italy.

The CFMoto MT Challenge began in 2025 with more than 70 participants from nearly 20 countries, as they tackled a series of tests and trials in Australia’s Yarra Valley Estate.

On that occasion riders used the Chinese brand’s 800MT-X machines, however, for 2026 CFMoto is replacing the middleweight adventure bike with the new flagship 1000MT-X.

The 1000MT-X uses an adopted version of KTM’s LC8c parallel-twin engine that is currently housed by both the 990 Duke and the 990 RC R supersport bike. Specifically, the 1000MT-X uses a 947cc powertrain that delivers a claimed 109.4bhp at 8,500rpm and 77.4Ib-ft of torque at 6,250rpm.

Suspension is handled by KYB, with a fully adjustable 48mm inverted fork at the front, and a rear monoshock that’s also fully adjustable. Stopping power comes via Brembo, with four-piston calipers biting down on 320mm discs at the front. A dual-piston Brembo caliper is paired with a 260mm disc at the rear.

Although the 1000MT-X produces more power and torque, it does share some similarities with its smaller sibling, especially regarding the bodywork. How all this affects the competition, though, remains to be seen.

The final of the 2026 MT Challenge will be held in Huelva, Spain, where more than 80 riders will battle it out over the course of a two-day decider.

Riders will take on a ‘Venue Challenge’ which involves tests focusing on control, balance and precision at the Monteblanco Circuit. There will also be an ‘Adventure Challenge’, which comprises a circular route that features various checkpoints and other demands.

The 2026 MT Challenge involves a qualification process which is open as we speak. The final will then take place from 26–28 September.
