Furygan Oggy jacket

Sport-style textile gives dynamic looks with textile warmth and comfort.

A sporty-styled textile jacket so you can look fast when it's freezing
Sharp styling, well priced for big brand name, warm comfy
Pocket zips a bit sticky

YOU NEED a lot of jackets in this job. It’s true. And like all specialist niches, some of them are a bit arcane. Like this one, for example. It’s a sporty-looking jacket from those coat-meisters at Furygan in France, complete with red and white logos, flashes and all that dynamic shizzle. Now, normally this would be made in leather, possibly perforated, and would be just the job for a summer blast.

Now, I’ve long since given up on getting any sympathy about this job. But it has its downsides, and riding about in the depths of winter, trying to look sporty and living the dream, even when the mercury says it’s brass monkeys outside, is one of them. Bundling up in winter kit is an option, but it’s always black, generally a bit frumpy, and art editors have a coronary when they see the pics. Gah.

So this Oggy jacket is a genuine boon. Ignoring the daft name for the moment, it’s a well-priced, comfy, warm textile jacket, with a waterproof breathable membrane, removable thermal liner and air venting system for warmer weather. I’ve worn it on a couple of jobs recently, and it’s kept me cosy in the 4-9° C weather of late round here. There are plenty of pockets inside and out, it comes with nice soft D3O armour, and with an optional back protector in the pocket, feels like it will keep you safe in a spill.

It’s an entry level jacket so the price is good – just £159.99. But the only sign I’ve seen so far of budget construction is in the pocket zips, which are a little bit rough in use. Maybe they’ll smooth out with some miles…

The Oggy jacket comes in Black/White, Black/White/Fluo Yellow, Black/White/Red, or Black/White/Fluo Green in sizes S – 4XL. RRP £159.99. For more information on Furygan in the UK, visit: www.nevis.uk.com
