Brit takes top spot at Yamaha’s global technician finals
Yamaha UK technician Liam Coffey has been named World Champion at the 2025 Yamaha World Technician Grand Prix in Iwata, Japan.

Liam Coffey, who works at QBS Powersports in Heybridge, Essex, reached the global final after winning both the UK Technician Grand Prix and the European Championship. The WTGP, held at Yamaha’s headquarters, is the top tier of the company’s international training and assessment programme. Only technicians who win their national and regional competitions qualify for the world stage.

Finalists in Japan are put through a series of technical and customer-service challenges designed to test accuracy, speed, and professionalism. Coffey, who has entered the competition repeatedly over the past decade, delivered a faultless performance under pressure and topped the standings against competitors from across the world.

Yamaha says his win reflects both Coffey’s skill and the strength of its global technician-training platform, the Yamaha Motor Academy. It also marks a significant moment for the UK dealer network.
Speaking after the event, Coffey said the competition was “like nothing I’ve ever experienced”, citing the intensity of the tasks and the standard of other finalists. He added that competing at Yamaha’s headquarters and visiting the factory was “inspiring”, and thanked colleagues at QBS Powersports, Yamaha Motor UK, and the Yamaha Motor Academy for their support.
