After landing a deal to become an ambassador for the British brand, Dakar legend Sam Sunderland will step back into the world of racing with Triumph as he gears up for an appearance at the Red Bull Romaniacs event on July 22-26, in Sibui, Romania - aboard the Tiger 900 Rally Pro.

Sunderland officially retired from motorcycle racing at the Dakar in 2024, although he still took part in the event. But half a year later, the off-road racing star is now jumping back into the racing ring with the brand’s Enduro racer Jonny Walker, who will also be aboard the same Tiger 900 Rally Pro machine.

Sunderland, who is a two-time Dakar Rally winner and former FIM World Rally-Raid Champion, will contest the Adventure Lite class on what will be his competitive debut for Triumph.

“It’s super exciting to be taking on such an iconic hard enduro race,” said Sunderland. “The adventure classes are a great way to get involved, and I can’t wait to get out to Romania to get stuck in. It’s more similar to what I have done in rally-raid in the past, especially with the five-day format, and I’m looking forward to getting into race mode again. My Triumph Tiger 900 will be pretty much standard, so it’s going to be cool to put it to the test.”

The bikes that both Sunderland and Walker will be riding will only be fitted with minimal racing parts, retaining a hefty stock presence.

Triumph Motorcycles Head of Global Racing Programmes Ian Kimber added: “I’m really excited to have Jonny and Sam entering the legendary Red Bull Romaniacs race for Triumph. They’re both experts in their respective fields, but piloting the Tiger 900 Rally Pro in the Adventure classes will show everyone not just what they are made of, but also what the Tiger can do in the extreme environments. It’s going to be a tough race, but I know the lads will come out swinging as they take on the challenge of this iconic event.”
