Triumph rolls out electric trials bikes for kids
Triumph reveals four different electric trials bikes aimed at kids as young as 3.
Triumph has just rolled out the thing that will almost certainly be responsible for my daughter getting into trouble with local farmers: the TXP range of electric trials bikes.
Developed in collaboration with OSET, the company acquired by Triumph back in 2022, the “new” TXP range offers “scalable electric performance, premium design, and built-in safety features,” according to a media release.
We’re putting the word ‘new’ in quotes there because OSET already had a TXP range. Editor in Chief Toad Hancocks took a look at the OSET TXP-24 back in July. Whether the new Triumph TXP-24 is, in fact, the same machine is uncertain. But we kinda suspect it is.
The Triumph TXP range offers four stages, starting with the TXP-12, which is targeted at children as young as 3 years old. Because, sure, you’ve got someone who still hasn’t worked out how to fully control their bowels; why not put them on a vehicle capable of hitting 16 mph?
The TXP-16 takes things further, targeting 5 year olds with a bike capable of putting them into a patch of bramble at 19 mph. The TXP-20, meanwhile, is aimed at “growing riders” according to a Triumph media release, which the product specs page specifies as a minimum age of 7 years old. Top speed on that one is 22 mph.
The possibly aforementioned TXP-24 tops out the range with a bike aimed at riders aged 11 and up. The TXP-24 will tolerate riders of weights up to 90.2 kg (that’s 199 lbs in old money, or 14.2 stone), so it might be the one to choose if you’re an adult rider who’s never attempted trials before. Top speed on the TXP-24 is claimed to be 24 mph.
Joking aside, the bikes feature PIN-protected parental speed controls, which means you can protect your children - somewhat - from their bad decisions.
“Each bike is engineered from the ground up with age-specific frames, geometry, controls, and components,” declares Triumph’s media release. “Everything is scaled and optimised for the rider's size and experience.”
The bikes are available to order at selected Triumph dealerships. Delivery is expected to occur just in time for Christmas. If you’re a farmer in the countryside, prepare to have your fields torn up on Boxing Day.
