Teen Motorcycle Thief Gets Just Four Years For Stabbing Man During Foiled Robbery
A Sunderland teenager has been jailed for just four years after he stabbed a father who was trying to prevent him from stealing his bike

A Sundeland teenager has been jailed for just four years after he stabbed father during a foiled robbery attempt.
Jake Milner, 19, from Sunderland, was attempting to steal the bike, which was at the rear of a property in Sunderland, last November. Alerting the homeowners to his presence, the victim in the incident, an unnamed male, made his way to the back door. Here he was confronted by a shadowy figure at the rear of the property, who was trying to free a bike which was at the rear of the property.
The presecutor in the case, Rachel Butt, told the court how the victim opened the back door, only to see the assailant flee down the alleyway at the side of the house. The victim in the incident gave chase, eventually catching up with the would-be thief who was trying to flee over a nearby fence.

As a scuffle ensued, with the victim now pinnning the teen criminal in a headlock, the unnamed man reported being able to feel a thrashing motion. Still, while managing to wrestle the teen to the ground, the victim was said to receive another three or four strikes from the knife. It was enough for him to become weak with blood loss, eventually leading to him losing his grip and allowing Milner to flee.
Ms Butt told the court: "He suffered four major wounds to his back. They were deep, and at least two had penetrated the lining of the lung." Further scans at the hospital reveal more injuries, including a collapsed lung.
On sentencing, Recorder Peter Makepeace said: "You attempted to flee proper justice, you knew the police were coming and you stabbed him to make your good to getaway. Furthermore, the victim's partner and child had to witness your assault."
In court, Milner pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and being in possession of a bladed article. He was sentenced to four years in prison. With good behaviour, he could be out within two years.
The crime just goes to show the lengths that criminals will go to not only steal your property, but to evade capture if you try and stop them. That and the shocking nature of the UK legal system, which doesn’t seem to give proportionate sentences for violent crimes such as this.
