Sena launches slimmer Spider X Mesh intercom with Bose audio and remote battery design

Sena has unveiled the new Spider X Slim, a Mesh-equipped motorcycle intercom that uses a separate battery pack to reduce bulk on the side of the helmet while retaining up to 11 hours of talk time.

Sena has pulled the covers off its latest motorcycle communications system, the Spider X Slim, a new Mesh intercom that aims to reduce the visual bulk of traditional helmet-mounted units without sacrificing features.

The headline change comes in the form of a separate battery pack. Rather than housing the battery inside the main intercom unit, Sena has split the system into two components, allowing the primary module to sit closer to the helmet shell and present a lower-profile appearance.

According to Sena, the remote battery can be mounted either inside or outside the helmet depending on the installation requirements, helping the Spider X Slim maintain a slimmer overall package while still delivering a claimed 11 hours of talk time.

Despite the smaller main unit, the Spider X Slim retains the brand's Mesh communication platform. The system supports both Mesh 3.0 and Mesh 2.0 protocols and offers rider-to-rider communication over distances of up to 1.6km, according to Sena.

The unit also includes Sena's Wave Intercom functionality, which uses a mobile data connection to remove traditional range limitations, allowing riders to communicate wherever cellular coverage is available.

Alongside intercom duties, the Spider X Slim can stream music, provide GPS audio instructions, handle phone calls and connect riders with passengers or other members of a group ride.

Audio performance comes courtesy of Sena's partnership with Bose. The Spider X Slim features what the company calls "Sound by Bose", using a dedicated digital processor and custom audio tuning designed to improve clarity for music playback, navigation prompts, phone calls and rider communications.

Additional features include AI-assisted microphone noise reduction, voice command functionality, FM radio, over-the-air software updates and an IPX7 waterproof rating.

The new intercom also introduces interchangeable outer covers, allowing riders to choose between black, chrome, silver or white finishes to better match their helmet or riding kit.

The Spider X Slim joins Sena's latest generation of communication systems and is covered by the company's limited lifetime warranty programme.

Pricing starts at £239 for a single unit, while the dual-rider pack is priced at £459.
