WSB 2013: Nurburgring race results

TOM SYKES took victory in the first race of the day at the Nurburgring in Germany despite not leading as the race ended. Two big crashes on the penultimate lap for Jonathan Rea and Leon Camier brought out the red flags just moments after Goldbet BMW's Marco Melandri took the lead from Sykes' Kawasaki. 

Melandri had led off the line, but Sykes quickly moved back into the lead. In the closing stages Melandri looked comfortable behind the Yorkshireman, and was incredibly frustrated not to take the win. 

BMW was to have a better time of it in race two, however, as Melandri's team-mate Chaz Davies took his third WSB win of the 2013 season in a race that again did not run its full course. Davies was under pressure from Melandri and Aprilia Racing's Eugene Laverty, who was looking to make amends after a race one lowside crash. The two were unable to make a late charge, however, as oil on the track at turn one saw the red flags come out and the result declard.
