Michael Dunlop has taken to social media to play down rumours he has sealed a deal to race on the roads this season, revealing no agreements are in place and he is ‘open to proposals’.
One of the most successful riders to have competed on the Isle of Man TT with 19 wins to his name, Dunlop has spent the last two seasons competing with TAS Racing (Tyco) BMW.
A winner in 2018 with the team, Dunlop parted ways with the team at the end of 2019 after the TAS team lost its official BMW Motorrad backing to rivals Smiths Racing, led by Peter Hickman.
Since then there has been plenty of upheaval in the road racing rider market with John McGuinness joining Quattro Plant Kawasaki, Glenn Irwin and Davey Todd heading up Honda Racing’s bid and OMG Racing BMW penning a deal with David Johnson and James Hillier.
As for Dunlop, the Ulsterman has been linked with a return to Hawk Racing aboard a factory-assisted Suzuki GSX-R1000 but he has since taken to social media to pour cold water on those rumours.
However, he says he will be continuing to compete in Supersport and Superstock under his own MD Racing banner.
“Despite all the rumours flying around about who I will be riding for this year I can confirm that I currently have no agreement in place to ride a Superbike for this season and I'm open to proposals," he said.
"I will be doing my own thing for the Supersport and Superstock classes under the md racing banner as usual as that has proved to be a good way of doing things but we would always welcome new sponsors who are looking to partner with a successful team.”
