Entries for the 2023 Isle of Man TT races are officially open, marking a step towards the 102nd edition of the event.

International road racing never disappoints, and it rarely gets more intense, passionate or meaningful than the Isle of Man TT.

For the competitors, entries are now open for the 2023 event, which will be the 102nd edition of the Isle of Man TT since the first races in 1907.

Since then, motorcycle racing has changed a lot, and the TT is no exception. Compared to the first running in 1907, the race is now on a different course, and compared to the first running on the Snaefell course in 1911 the average speeds are over 80mph faster per lap for the front runners.

At the forefront of the current performance progression at the TT is of course Peter Hickman, the nine-times TT winner having also set the fastest ever lap of the Snaefell course at 135.452mph in 2018.

For 2023, the event changes again, with a new race format which will see every class race twice. Further, there will be three races on the middle weekend of the TT fortnight (Supersport, Sidecar, Superbike), four midweek races (Superstock, Supertwin, Supersport, and Sidecar), and three races on the final weekend (Superstock and Supertwin on Friday, Senior on Saturday).

Peter Hickman said about the new race format: “It’s great that we’ll get the opportunity to race twice in each class. There’s also a real incentive there now for teams and competitors to put together more race-winning packages with the Superstock and Supertwin classes now offering a much better return for similar investment and commitment.

“At the same time, I know that a little mistake or a minor mechanical issue can ruin a race - and all you can think about is having to wait another twelve months before you get to try again. With two races per class, you not only get another bite at the cherry, but you can learn a lot from the first race, which you can take forward to the second. Those races at the end of race week, in particular, I would expect to be hugely competitive and hard-fought.”
