Marquez released from hospital

But may be in doubt for the final round at Valencia

MARC MARQUEZ has been discharged from hospital following medical checks on the injuries sustained in practice at Sepang.

Marquez was unable to take part in Sunday's race after a huge high-side in Friday opening practice session, arriving at a wet turn 10 on slicks with no warning from the marshals of the conditions.

He attempted to ride on Saturday, but was pulled out of the race after suffering from problems with his vision.

The Moto2 front-runner underwent two days of medical checks at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, taken there immediately upon returning from Malaysia on Monday.

In a statement, Dr. Xavier Mir, Head of Hand Surgery Unit of the USP Dexeus said, “Marc Márquez has a left shoulder traumatism, and incisive wound on the chin and second degree burns on the right knee, so we started with the cures to start regenerating the skin.”

Dr. Ángel Charte, Head of the Medicine Department, commented, “the rider arrived to the hospital after suffering an accident that caused concussion with brachial involvement and several contusions. In Malaysia he also suffered an episode of blurred vision and image distortion. When he arrived to the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, we did several diagnosis tests that showed that he suffers periorbital edema that produces a sequential vertical diplopia (double vision), and discards any other type of injury. He is following a treatment to correct this vision alteration and it is evolving satisfactorily.”

The Spanish rider, who confirmed he will stay in Moto2 next season, may be in doubt for the final round at Valencia should his vision not improve. The Repsol Suter outfit will make a decision in the upcoming days depending on how his recovery progresses, should it prove unsuccessful the Moto2 championship will go to Stefan Bradl.
