The first trials event to be organised by Dougie Lampkin is due to take place at the beginning of January.

The Utilita Arena Sheffield will open its doors to some of the best trials riders in the world next month on 7 January, as the DL12 Indoor Trial, organised by 12-time World Trial Champion Dougie Lampkin, becomes the first major indoor trial to take place in England in over three years.

Toni Bou - Montesa Repsol

Of those competing, the rider unsurprisingly drawing the most attention is Toni Bou, arguably one of the most gifted motorcycle riders, of any discipline, in history. A 32-time World Trial Champion by now, indoor and out combined, Bou is a rider who limits himself almost exclusively to World Championship events, although he has made an exception for the Yorkshire glamour of a wintery Sheffield.

The legendary Spaniard has a strong field of riders alongside him on the DL12 Indoor Trial entry list: Jaime Busto finished second to Bou in the 2022 TrialGP World Championship, while Adam Raga was third overall. Gabriel Marcelli completes a quartet of Spanish riders, and was fifth in the 2022 TrialGP championship.

Trial2 World Champion for 2022, Sondre Haga, having recently confirmed his arrival at GasGas for 2023, will also be in Sheffield; as will 2022 British Champion Toby Martyn; 2022 Trial3 Champion Harry Hemmingway; and 2022 British Championship runner-up Jack Peace.

The reserve riders are Billy Green, who finished third in the 2022 Trial2 World Championship, and British number five Jack Dance.

The anticipation is that the Lampkin-designed course will provide a strong challenge for the eight riders, something which Lampkin said has been a particular focus for him when he spoke to Visordown in an interview which will be published soon.

The final remaining tickets are still available, and can be purchased on Ticketmaster.
