BSB Brands Hatch Qualifying Results: Brookes pole, Redding 9th

BSB Brands Hatch Qualfying Results & Grid: Josh Brookes starts race one from pole as issues consign Scott Redding to ninth

Josh Brookes - Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R

Josh Brookes’ title aspirations were given a timely boost ahead of the final round for the 2019 British Superbike Championship after claiming pole position at Brands Hatch, while title rival Scott Redding suffered technical issues.

Redding, who comes into the weekend with a 28-point lead over Brookes with 75-points available from the remaining three races, failed to get a time in during the final Q3 session after his Be Wiser Ducati ground to a halt.

As such, he starts in a vulnerable mid-pack position in ninth place as the Paul Bird Motorsport team faces a race against time to get his bike fixed for race one this afternoon.

His team-mate Brookes, meanwhile, snatched pole position with his final effort from Danny Buchan, who tactically followed the Australian on his first lap to lead the way after the opening round of laps. However, Brookes responded to take the top spot, giving him the best possible chance to mount his attack on Redding.

Christian Iddon continued his solid end to the 2019 BSB season as he looks to seal the BSB Riders’ Cup as the highest-placed non-Showdown rider, in third place, while Tommy Bridewell ensured his flagging title hopes remain in range with a solid fourth.

Peter Hickman, who is battling for a top five finish overall, was fifth quickest from the impressive Luke Mossey on the OMG Suzuki in sixth, Jason O’Halloran, Bradley Ray and the unfortunate Redding.

Elsewhere, Alex Olsen was an impressive 10th on the Smiths BMW, ahead of fellow Superstock-turned-Superbike substitute Taylor Mackenzie.

However, there was more frustration for his brother Tarran, who suffered another big off, one which sent his McAMS Yamaha vaulting over the barrier and into the trees. He starts 23rd.
