Bajaj takeover forces major name change at KTM’s parent company

Pierer Mobility AG, the company behind KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS, is preparing to change its name to Bajaj Mobility AG - a move that marks a seismic shift for the brand and its founder, Stefan Pierer.

Pierer Mobility AG (PMG) - the parent company behind KTM, Husqvarna, and GASGAS – is set for a major identity shift as it prepares to change its name to Bajaj Mobility AG.

Yes, you read that right. The company, which has long prided itself on its Austrian engineering and orange-blooded racing heritage, is on the brink of wearing an Indian badge.

The announcement comes as part of preparations for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for November 19, 2025. On the agenda: a formal vote to rename the company, subject to regulatory approval under EU rules (specifically Regulation 2022/2560, for those keeping score). The change will only go ahead if the full takeover of PMG by Bajaj isn’t blocked by regulators.

For context, Bajaj has been a major shareholder and strategic partner of the PIERER Mobility Group for years, helping KTM expand production and reach into new markets. But this move marks something much deeper — a complete shift in control and, perhaps more symbolically, identity.

The Pierer era of PMG, it seems, is coming to an end.

In parallel, the Supervisory Board will see a major shake-up. Members nominated by Stefan Pierer are expected to step down from their positions, with replacements to be elected once Bajaj’s control is confirmed. Full details of the meeting and the proposed resolutions will be published on the company’s website on October 29, 2025.

For KTM fans, it’s hard not to see this as the end of an era. Stefan Pierer has been synonymous with the brand’s aggressive growth, racing dominance, and its bold expansion across Europe, Asia and beyond. To see the company that bears his name preparing to become Bajaj Mobility AG — well, that’s likely to sting. It is also PMG's and KTM's accelerated growth that, for many, is the crux of the issue.

And yet, from a global business standpoint, it’s a logical step. Bajaj has been instrumental in the company’s success story, and the partnership has created one of the most powerful motorcycle alliances in the world.

Still, for Mr Pierer — a man who built his reputation on Austrian independence and engineering pride — watching his empire take on a new name may be the hardest race he’s ever lost.
