The Honda Activa hits the 35 million sales milestone
The Honda Activa was introduced in 2001 and has since gone on to reach 35 million sales.

You might not be familiar with the Honda Activa scooter, but it’s just ticked off an incredibly impressive milestone, topping 35 million cumulative sales in India.
Okay, so for clarity, this isn’t just the Activa on its own, as it covers the Activa 110, Activa 125 and the Activa-i - but still, it’s a pretty vast number of sales for any bike to achieve.
The key to the model's success seems to be its simplicity. The Activa is, compared to most of the ‘big bikes’ we get in the UK, fairly basic. Although with strong reliability, good fuel economy and a high degree of accessibility, a literal army of customers grew. Data suggest that it took Honda thirteen years to hit ten million Activa sales, although that number quickly jumped by the same amount again, this time in just three years.

Honda India currently has five variants of the Activa in its ranks. The Activa 110, powered by a 7.7bhp four-stroke engine, the Activa 125, which hits the heady heights of 8.3bhp, and an Anniversary Edition of each model. There is also a battery-powered bike in the family, in the form of the Activa e:. That model gains an 8bhp motor and can hit a claimed top speed of 50mph.
None of those stats jump out of the screen at you, but when the base model Activa 110 starts at just 4,369 Indian Rupees - around £640 at today’s exchange rate - it’s really no surprise.
