Norton looks set to revive a nameplate from its past in 2025, as filings from India have revealed an upcoming new bike called the Norton Electra.

We reported recently that Norton, and its owner TVS, is plotting a raft of new models in the mid and small capacity segment. Bikes are thought to be landing late 2025, although officially, Norton has remained tight-lipped about what they are and when they will arrive. Overnight, though, news reports have begun to surface in India, all of them pointing to a new model, and the revival of an old name, as the Electra seems to be one of the new bikes.

The original Electra was built by Norton in the 1960s and was one of a three-bike family of small and mid-capacity Norton models. It was joined by the Jubilee, a 250cc, 16bhp twin-cylinder, and the Navigator, which was a 350cc, 22bhp model. Although the only model revealed in the filings is the Electra, some are touting the other bikes Norton has lined up for 2025 and 2026 to be linked to the nameplates mentioned above. That could be true, as in the modern era, Norton has relied on names from its past for modern-day models.

Some are also pointing to the Electra being a new electric model from the historic brand, but while battery-powered motorcycles are likely on Norton’s radar, we’ve not seen huge amounts of movement from TVS or Norton in the sector. The only production electric bike in the TVS range is the iQube, a step-through scooter with 2.2kWh and 3.4kWh battery options. If Norton were to step into the electric bike sector, it would almost certainly not be with a cheap and cheerful scooter.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for any further updates and filings on Norton’s upcoming bikes - stay tuned.
