New Merlin Coplow jacket boasts AA safety rating
UK-based gear maker known for stylish riding gear adds another jacket to its portfolio.
UK-based Merlin has just launched its new Coplow jacket. Waterproof and equipped with D30 armour, it promises an AA safety rating and the opportunity to look good on and off your bike.
The Coplow is the latest addition to Merlin’s Heritage Collection, which is, arguably, what the brand is known for. Founded in Birmingham in 2011, Merlin has a reputation for producing gear that looks good without being ridiculously expensive.
“Designed for riders who demand both uncompromising performance and refined aesthetics, the Coplow introduces a host of innovations,” claims Merlin.
First on that list is the fact the jacket is constructed from 100-percent recycled laminated polyester.
“This eco-friendly fabric delivers robust durability while helping to reduce environmental impact,” says Merlin. “Further enhancing its green credentials, the Coplow features a PFAS-free water-repellency treatment.”
The jacket is also equipped with D30 armour in the shoulders and elbows, with space for a back protector (sold separately).
In terms of features, a zip-out removable thermal liner is there for colder rides. The liner itself has a pocket, which means that, in total, the Coplow has seven pockets: two external breast pockets with snap closure; two external handwarmer pockets with zip closure; a zipped coin/toll pocket that we’re not actually seeing on either of the forearms (we’d guess it’s on the right forearm, thereby ensuring that you’re not fiddling with pockets while holding the clutch in); and an internal mesh pocket.
We’re seeing vents in the biceps, with snaps to hold the vent open, and it looks like the collar strap can also be snapped back on warmer days. There’s an adjustable waist, and a YKK zipper main closure. A storm flap behind the zipper ostensibly helps to keep out wind and precipitation.

Available in Black, Sand, or Green, the Coplow jacket comes in sizes S to XXXXL. It’s priced at £379.99 and is available at retailers now.
