Is a Honda CB1000 Hornet SP Variant Incoming
Type approval documents from Germany have noted the model, which looks to have more power and likely a higher chassis specification

54 years 8 monthsThe Honda CB1000 Hornet has been a long time coming, having been announced in 2023 at EICMA although since then no launch event has been confirmed.
We did, though, report on the news earlier this summer that Honda UK was “confident” the bike would be arriving in 2024, although this week type approval documents from Germany highlight a surprising update to the model.
The documents point to a higher-spec SP variant of the CB1000 launching either simultaneously to the stock bike or possibly slightly later in the year. Hard and fast details of the SP aren’t known, with Motorcycle.com simply reporting that power for the SP is up from the 147bhp of the stock bike, to 152bhp for the more fruity variant.
History tells us, though, that Honda’s SP variants rarely just gain more power. While we have no official information on what the chassis spec of the bike is, it doesn’t take too much imagination to think of a bike with more adjustability in the suspension, possibly higher-spec brakes and perhaps some tweaks to the riding modes to help elevate the model further.
That is pure speculation, though, but with the Milan bike show just around the corner, we might not have to wait long to find out for sure. Honda likes to lay on a big presentation of its incoming new models at the start of the event. We are fairly confident that one or both of the new models will be getting rolled across the stage then, and we’ll be on hand to bring you all the news as we have it.
